Make a Donation

Make a donation to help us improve all services we offer.

If you love the Library and want to help us succeed, please consider making a donation. As a non-profit organization, we rely heavily upon local, and to a lesser degree, on provincial government funding, but we don’t always receive the funds we need to meet basic operating costs.

Your donations are essential. We use your generous donations to buy new material to improve the collections you enjoy, to help pay for programs for children, teens, and seniors, and to complete renovation and upgrading projects.

Our vision for the future includes some lofty goals that we need your help to accomplish. Please take a look at the donation opportunities below and contact us if you're interested in helping us meet some of these goals.

Donation & Sponsorship Opportunities

Every donation we receive brings us closer to meeting our goals of expanding our program and service offerings. Your donation, big or small, will make a BIG impact on our patrons.

Some of the smaller projects we have our sights set on include:

  • meeting rooms refresh (updated design and new furnishings/fixtures);
  • small furniture purchases (study chairs, reading chairs, etc.); and,
  • books, materials, educational toys, etc.

If you want to consider a bigger project, something with greater name recognition - take a look at the opportunities listed further down in this menu.

The Medicine Hat Public Library is so much more than just books! We offer movies, music, magazines, newspapers, online learning classes, home energy kits, coding kits, etc.

Help us grow our collection by sponsoring something you’re passionate about providing equal access to, like: Makerspace equipment such as robotics kits, video game programming, virtual reality, 3D printers, media production workstations; or, sports equipment, tools, games, ties for job interviews, etc.

Return on Investment:

  • your name/logo displayed on collection materials;
  • launch campaign will include plan to encourage several businesses, influencers, and well-known Hatters posting photos/videos of them using the collection. A special hashtag with sponsors name will be created;
  • highlight of the collection and your sponsorship in our monthly newsletter (delivered to more than 10,000 patrons);
  • ad to celebrate the new collection and your sponsorship in the Medicine Hat News; and,
  • several social media posts to highlight your contribution to our collection and to encourage its use (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

With an average of more than 260,000 yearly visits, our library is a very well-used community space. In order to stay relevant to our diverse range of users, we have undergone space-use surveys to understand how our space is being utilized.

If you would like to make a very visible contribution to our library, opportunities exist for medium-sized renovation projects which will help us to format our space to better meet the needs of our community.

Opportunities available:

  • development of small meeting/study/production rooms to hold up to ten people;
  • renovate meeting rooms to serve as multi-purpose spaces.

Return on Investment:

  • your name/logo displayed on the space;
  • additional recognition based on the opportunity;
  • highlight of your sponsorship in our monthly newsletter (delivered to more than 10,000 patrons);
  • ad to celebrate the new equipment and your sponsorship in the Medicine Hat News; and,
  • several social media posts to highlight your sponsorship and to encourage use of the equipment (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

Thanks to Co-op and the Kinsmen Club of Medicine Hat, this sponsorship opportunity has been fulfilled. Visit the Kinsmen Children's Library inside the Medicine Hat Public Library to see the renovations for yourself!

Help us remove the one remaining barrier to free access: the $5 charge for adult library cards.

There is currently a movement in Alberta libraries to drop cardholder fees. In fact, the majority of Albertans can access their local library for free. We would like to follow suit but need to recover the revenue that our annual membership fees bring in. For significant returns, you can sponsor our library cards so we can remove fees and truly offer barrier-free access to everyone in our community.

Return on Investment:

  • your logo/name printed on all library cards (approximately 12,000 annual cardholders);
  • your logo/name listed in our program booklets for the year (approximately 15,000 printed annually);
  • your logo/name listed on the front page of our website (nearly 70,000 visitors viewed the homepage more than 155,000 times in 2017);
  • logo/name recognition on posters/banners at all of our service desks (Children’s Desk, Information Desk, Circulation Desk, Reference Desk)
  • feature in our monthly newsletter (delivered to more than 10,000 patrons);
  • quarterly ads in the Medicine Hat Newspaper to recognize your sponsorship;
  • CHAT TV interview with you and a library representative at least twice annually;
  • announcement ads and interviews on all of the local radio stations;
  • social media highlight of your business (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook)
  • minimum of 25 social media posts with photos/ videos of the cards being used by our patrons (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram); and,
  • 8 inches by 8 inches plaque on our donor wall.

Why satellite?

The lack of parking at our current location is the most commonly cited reason why people didn’t attend a program they were interested in or why they turned around and went home after planning to visit.

The lack of parking makes it especially difficult for those with mobility issues or families with little ones in strollers, carriers, etc.

Opportunities available:

  • many opportunities exist to expand library services in Medicine Hat. For example, we are interested in partnering with other organizations to offer programming off-site and to make books available to pick-up and drop-off at other locations around the city;
  • off-site book lockers offer a relatively low cost way of making materials available to our patrons without a dedicated staffing requirement and very little space required.

Return on Investment:

Your return on investment for the donation of book lockers will include the following:

  • logo/name recognition on lockers;
  • grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony with media and local dignitaries invited;
  • your logo/name listed in our program booklets for the year (approximately 15,000 printed annually);
  • your logo/name listed on the front page of our website (nearly 70,000 visitors viewed the homepage more than 155,000 times in 2017);
  • announcement ads and interviews with you and a library representative on all of the local radio stations;
  • quarterly ads in the Medicine Hat News to recognize your sponsorship;
  • CHAT TV interview with you and a library representative at least twice annually;
  • two features in our monthly newsletter (delivered to 10,000 patrons);
  • social media highlight of your business (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook);
  • minimum 12 annual social media posts on the Library’s social media pages to highlight the lockers in the first year (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter);
  • 8 inches by 8 inches plaque on our donor wall; and,
  • additional benefits may be recognized.
