There are fewer than three weeks to go until our second Big Truck Day and things are looking good for our goal of making it bigger and better than the first.
At last year’s event we received an overwhelming response and lots of feedback on different and additional vehicles people wanted to see. Community businesses and organizations were also eager to bring their vehicles to the next Big Truck Day.
We set out to make those things happen, and the first step was to find a bigger venue. We found the biggest in the city. Big Truck Day 2026 will take place at Co-op Place on Saturday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
What will you find there?
“We have a cement truck coming, we have electrical trucks coming, we have the Sunshine Trolley, we have a city bus,” says Karla Gaetz, Youth Services Library Assistant and Big Truck Day organizer, before taking a breath. “We have the HALO helicopter, a vacuum truck, cranes, and the City of Medicine Hat is bringing more of their vehicles than last year.”
Big Truck Day is for kids and kids at heart, says Gaetz.
“Come to explore and climb inside the vehicles, honk horns, and learn about the vehicles and the people who drive them,” she says. “Come experience something you’ve never experienced before.”
New this year will be pedal tractors from The Pedal Tractor Farm and facepainting, which are partially funded through a grant from the City of Medicine Hat. To stay fueled during the event, Save-on-Foods is sponsoring a free barbecue.
