All good things must come to an end, including the Home Routes Concert Series hosted in the Library Theatre over the past six months.
Alternative/folk singer-songwriter Kaeley Jade will put an exclamation point on the five-part series on April 12 at 7 p.m. The show at Medicine Hat Public Library will be just two days after the release of her album "The Great Unknown."
“I’m very much looking forward to celebrating its songs with the audience in Medicine Hat, as well as some selections from my older works,” the Edmonton-based Métis artist says about what will be her first ever show in this city.
Tickets, $10 each or $24 for three, are available at the Library. Fifty per cent of the ticket sales from the show will be donated to the Root Cellar Food & Wellness Hub with the other half going to Jade.
“'The Great Unknown' is a cinematic plunge into the dread, conflict, and uncertainty that arises when we reach a turning point. There is a catharsis in letting go of that which no longer serves us, and 'The Great Unknown' invites listeners to embrace the unpredictability of life, confront the moments that challenge us, and celebrate the beauty found within the ever-shifting tides of experience,” reads kaeleyjade.com.
Jade is a Canadian Folk Music Award winner and a Western Canadian Music Award nominee. Her previous album "Turpentine" produced two No. 1s on the Indigenous Music Countdown, and songs were featured on "Hockey Night in Canada," "Warrior Up!" and "Teen Mom: The Next Chapter".
She sees songwriting as a sort of therapy to work through difficult moments in life such as navigating relationships and reflecting on her own personal journey. She’s inspired by the nature she sees in her travels – “especially the gorgeous and dynamic landscapes of Alberta” – and sonically by artists in the folk and alternative rock spheres.
It all comes together for a setlist that mixes gentle ballads and more upbeat bops.
“I think one of the best parts of performing is creating hills and valleys within a set, and I really aim to make my shows a journey for my audience. Variety is the spice of life, as they say,” Jade remarks.
Her show will see her move between playing acoustic guitar and piano, and she’ll be accompanied by Gabriel Gagnon on lead guitar, percussion, and backing vocals.
You can pre-save “The Great Unknown” at https://ffm.to/the_great_unknown and Jade will have vinyl and CD available at the show. The merch table will also include original artworks inspired by the album.
