Main Library Entrance Temporarily Closed Next Week

Patrons will only be able to access the library by the lower-level entrance for a few days

Medicine Hat Public Library’s main entrance will be closed next week as work begins to replace a crucial piece of the building’s heating and air conditioning system.

Beginning Tuesday, workers will remove the heat coiling unit that is above the vestibule area at the library’s main upper-level door. The work is expected to take a few days, during which patrons will be able to access the library only through the lower-level door on River Road SE.

For anybody that has any mobility challenges and can’t do the stairs, library staff will try to reserve the parking spaces in the front on River Road. If you have mobility issues and need to park there, please call the main Information Desk number at 403-502-8525 with the day and time you plan to arrive and we will do our best to make sure there's a spot available for you.

Patrons who are unable to use the lower-level entrance will be able to use a curbside pickup form to book a time slot for their existing hold(s). People will collect their materials at the staff door next to the outdoor book return, near the honeycomb wall facing the Esplanade on First Street SE. Please ring the yellow bell to the right of the door when you arrive.

Any patrons with specific hold requests – e.g. ‘Give me every James Patterson book from 2025’ – are asked to call the main Information Desk number and speak to a staff member.

The main parking lot will be open, and those without mobility issues will be able to park there and use the stairs to get to the lower-level doors.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this temporary disruption.
