The Whoniverse is coming to Medicine Hat Public Library Comic Con No. 2

The free, all-ages celebration takes place Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Following an epic day of all things comics and fandom at our first Comic Con last year, Medicine Hat Public Library Comic Con No. 2 will be even bigger and better.

More events, more programs, more vendors and favourites from last year - plus a very special guest - await you at the library on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"The Doctor Who Society of Canada is coming as our main featured guest," exclaims youth and community librarian Stephanie Kuhn. "They're based in Ontario, but one of the senior members is originally from Medicine Hat so he was very happy to come out here. He's bringing a miniature, to-scale Tardis, which is the device that the doctor travels through space with. So, you can take pictures with it, you can talk to Phil Strange about all things Doctor Who."

Also new for this year is a Pokémon room hosted by The Cardboard Casket. The room will feature Pokémon card trading all day and a Pokémon Trading Card Game Tournament in the afternoon. Don't know how to play? Pokémon professors will be here to teach people in the morning. A Pokémon Go Meet Up hosting by Pokémon Go Community Ambassadors will also take place outside in the afternoon.

A Fandom Fiasco Escape Room, Costume Contest, face-painting, free comic books, a vendor hall and more are also part of the day. Most activities are drop-in. See our current What’s On program booklet for more on the day's events.

More than 1,300 people attended last year's Library Comic Con, and excitement for the next one began that day.

"At the event last year it was like, 'when is the next one? You're doing this again, right? We want to make sure you're doing this again because this was awesome,'" Kuhn says.

Kuhn says Library Comic Con is for everyone.

“It's for the adults who lived as a geek in the closet and are excited to celebrate it in their adult life. It’s for kids who are loving Spider-Man and all of the amazing comics that are coming out for little kids. For teenagers who are looking to express themselves with costume-making. And anyone who's looking for a community.”
