The second performance in our Home Routes Concert Series might just blow the roof off the Library Theatre.
Graham Lindsey and Maddy O’Regan will be in the house for a free concert on Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. They’ll sling toe-tapping tunes and laughs, and give off an energy that spills over into the audience.
"You’ll hear everything from beautifully sung songs to driving energetic tunes, featuring fiddle and guitar, with banjo and of course voice,” says Lindsey.
The duo – who are more than just a fiddle-and-guitar duo – will play original tunes, but don’t let that scare you off, he says.
“These tunes are in the familiar folk and Celtic styles, and will have toes tapping – and you’ll be humming a tune or singing a song for days after.”
Lindsey is a multi-instrumentalist and composer whose newest album, “Tune Machine,” features eight of his best original tunes. His guitar and mandolin provide a solid, rhythmic foundation and the perfect counterpoint to O'Regan’s expressive fiddle.
O’Regan combines classical training with a deep love of folk music and brings a vibrant, engaging presence to every stage.
Their show is a perfect fit for small venues like the Library Theatre. Lindsey is familiar with small venues, hosting house concerts at his home for nearly a decade. He wound those down in 2019 as his own touring schedule took off.
Now on the performing side of the small concert game, he’s tapping into a new source of joy and an expanding circle of friends.
“I love being able to see each individual person, making connections when we’re playing, and being able to say hello to everyone after. Meeting folks and learning from the regions is the best part of being on the road,” he enthuses.
Lindsey adds that the connections made both from the stage and in the audience make it a privilege for he and O’Regan to perform at places like Medicine Hat Public Library.
“Small communities rely on people to function, to get by, and to come together for events like this concert we’re so fortunate to be playing on the 26th. Swapping stories brings people together, and we can really learn from folks we’re visiting, plus we can exchange so much - conversation, friendships, ideas and more - and be better people for it!"
Our Home Routes Concert Series will return in February, and two more shows will follow in the winter/spring. (Assuming we still have a roof after this month's show.)
