'You're Always Welcome': The Honeycomb House Teen Space Turns One

MHPL's Honeycomb House is having a huge impact on the lives of local teens
Posted on 30 August 2024 by Chris Brown.

When the idea of a dedicated space exclusive to teens at Medicine Hat Public Library was being developed, our vision was to create an open and welcoming place for them to connect with each other and take a break from the stress of growing up.

One year after The Honeycomb House opened, we're hearing comments like "I come here every chance I get" and "a place I can be myself in" from 15-year-old Cole Payeur.

Ev Robertson, the library's youth advocate, says it's been " magic" to watch teens come out of their shells.

It's safe to say the connections that are being made in and thanks to The Honeycomb House are changing lives for some Medicine Hat teens.

If you want to learn more or be involved in teen programs at the library, we invite you to the TIC TAC Open House on Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. For teens 13-19 years old in grades 7-12.

Some teenagers are starting at a new school right now and some are starting in a new city and community. Maybe there's not a big change for you right now but you're looking for new friends or to expand your interests and hobbies. We want you to know The Honeycomb House is here for you.
