Posted on 19 November 2024 by Chris Brown.

Medicine Hat Public Library welcomes five local authors to its second annual Local Authors Meet and Greet on Nov. 23.

Each of the five authors – Ben Coxson, Olivia M. Geib, Frank Krulicki, Pam Roberston Rivet and Cody Wheeler – either currently lives or has previously lived in the Medicine Hat area.

Geib writes young adult fantasy novels that cater to those ages 12-18 years old and is the author of “The Daughter of Fire & Fury” and “The Princess of Secrets & Shadows.” She says everyone should come to the meet and greet and is looking forward to speaking with people about how she became an author and the process of writing books.

“I love any opportunity to meet my readers and interact with my community. Especially when I get to talk about my favourite subject—books,” Geib says.

To start the day, the authors will each give a short talk sharing their writing journey. Afterwards people will be able to chat with the authors one-on-one and have the opportunity to purchase their books.

AUTHOR BIOGRAPHIES

Ben Coxson

Ben Coxson has been writing since high school and is passionate about adventure, psychology, art, and philosophy. Currently based in Medicine Hat, he works as a registered psychologist, with over a decade of experience helping people in various roles.

Ben's latest work, "The Dance of a Windmill," is free on Coxson’s YouTube channel and Spotify podcast. Hardcover, softcover and ebook versions are available for purchase. He is also working on a fictional trilogy that explores experiences from WW1, WW2, and other significant historical events.

Olivia M. Geib

Olivia M. Geib was born and raised in Medicine Hat. Though she faced adversity, it never deterred her from chasing her dreams. If anything, it taught her to dream bigger and dive deeper into each and every project she pursued. To place a little piece of her bleeding heart into every word she wrote.

Olivia is a neurodivergent, bisexual author whose unique ability to describe emotion, create unexpected turns, and explore uncomfortable feelings brings her novels to life. She is a lover of heart-wrenching twists, stomach-dropping adventure, and the belief that everyone, even the hero, can be a little bit bad.

Her debut novel The Daughter of Fire & Fury is available now...but beware in this story - everyone gets burned.

List of works: The Daughter of Fire & Fury; The Princess of Secrets & Shadows

Frank Krulick

Frank has been a comic book nerd for 35 years. Wanting to be a professional comic book writer, Frank sold his first script to DC Comics at the ripe old age of 16 - and yet it still hasn’t been printed! He landed himself a Bachelor of English degree and amassed a nice pile of rejection letters (you should see his signature collection of the people who said no to him) from various comic book companies.

That’s when he met a lovely lady, got married, settled down and had kids. He realized he needed a ‘real job’. Now 35 years later, still married and retired (early!), he is excited to bring one of his ideas that has been gestating for years to life - The House of Wonders!

Pam Robertson Rivet

Pam Robertson Rivet is a passionate creative who loves to draw from real life and issues that fascinate people when she writes.

With more than 20 years as a writer, she has over 250 writing credits; a mix of technical work, creative non-fiction, and the place where she has loads of fun, writing fiction. Pam has seven fiction books both novel and novella sized, where she has seven books you can enjoy, and a new one about a group of witches with a mystery to solve.

Cody Wheeler

Cody Wheeler leads the way at Stacking Cats Publishing Co., bringing plenty of tales to tell and colourful drawings up for show. Join him on a journey to inspire and uplift, with books that will give you and your spirits an energetic lift.

Originally from Bow Island, but now residing in Medicine Hat, he enjoys cycling, watching hockey, and hanging out with his friend Josie the Cat. Cody has a diploma in Advertising and Public Relations, he also has a degree in Visual Communications.

But writing books is what he enjoys best, with his friends Lumberjack Dan, Five Stacked Cats, Chester the Squirrel, Spot, and all the rest.

So come along and join the fun, with Wheeler and Stacking Cats Publishing, there is something for everyone!

For the past few weeks, Grade 4 students in the city have visited the library to learn about the programs and services we offer. In past years, library staff would go to schools to speak to classes and then hope that they and their caregivers would come to us. This year students board the Sunshine Trolley, operated by Tourism Medicine Hat, and are brought to the library for the presentation.“The…...read more
