New Library Card Sponsor: Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta Donna MacLean Library Fund

Posted on 20 October 2025 by Chris Brown.

Since 2005, the Donna MacLean Library Fund at the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta has been a proud and strong supporter of Medicine Hat Public Library. Twenty years into that relationship, it’s entered a new chapter.

The Community Foundation’s Donna MacLean Library Fund is the current sponsor of our A Library Card for Every Hatter program. A donation of $1,020 means FREE cards for 204 adults in Medicine Hat (kids’ cards are always free).

Pictured above is Emily Conley, grants & communications coordinator at the Community Foundation. She says the library represents a partner in building a vibrant and connected community.

“We share a commitment to removing barriers, encouraging lifelong learning, and ensuring that everyone has access to the resources they need to thrive,” she says. “Sponsoring membership cards is a meaningful way to remove barriers, encourage learning, and share a lasting love of libraries, while directly supporting the library and the people who use it.”

Conley says the library is so much more than you might expect, calling it a cornerstone in our community that offers inclusive, innovative and unique programs for all ages.

“The friendly, knowledgeable staff and welcoming atmosphere make it a place where everyone feels at home, whether you're exploring new ideas, discovering resources, or simply enjoying a good book,” she says.

The Community Foundation has previously supported the library with grants that allowed us to: acquire scanning pens to improve access to reading for people who experience print disabilities; purchase new furniture and Chromebooks for patron use; supply free menstrual products for anyone who might need them; and purchase snacks for our teen programs.
