Social Worker in the Library

We are proud to employ multiple social workers in the library to provide the Medicine Hat community with support and information.

The Medicine Hat Public Library is pleased to serve the community by providing access to social workers on staff. Our social work office is a short term, task focused office for individuals 18+ that provides an entry point into the system of care in Medicine Hat and the local area.

Our social workers can provide one-on-one advising on a variety of topics, including:

  • Local community resource navigation for housing, substance use, mental health supports, family supports, income tax clinics, utility concerns, food security needs and applicable social service agencies where available in the community
  • Support for applications, forms and information related to social service programs
  • In office phone call support for individuals needing to call Canada Revenue Agency, Service Canada or related offices
  • Social connection within the library, including relevant library programming
  • Access to document support: scanning, printing and emailing
  • Access to a phone that can be used in office

The following services are not available at this time:

  • Long term case management
  • Drop in/Walk in times
  • Individual community case management services
  • Outreach
  • Legal advice
  • Clinical therapy services
  • Medical notes
  • Medical or Psychiatry Referrals
  • Mediation
  • Immigration Services
