Playground Passport
July 2nd – Aug 31st; Children’s Desk 
Explore the city for the chance to win prizes! Pick up a passport at the Kinsmen’s Children’s Library Desk, or download at home, and returned by August 31 st to be entered in to win one of two prize packs. In partnership with the Digital Wellness Coalition, The Y, and City of Medicine Hat Parks & Recreation.

Reading Quest
July 2nd – Aug 31st; Children’s Desk 
Embark on a summer of reading with the Reading Quest! Set a daily reading goal, track your progress, and earn collectible trading cards as you go. For every three days you complete your goal, visit the library to collect a new card and enter a ballot for the grand prize each month. July trackers can be picked up between June 29 - July 10. August trackers will be available for pick up between July 27 - August 7. 

The Wheel of Reading
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, July 7th – Aug 20th; Children’s Library  
 
Come in during regular hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to spin the Wheel of Reading! Let the wheel decide your next great read and win prizes along the way, courtesy of the TD Summer Reading Club. 

Tween Night: Bring Your Own Book Club

Grab your latest read and join us at Bring Your Own Book Club—the perfect spot to chat about books, get crafty, and enjoy some snacks. Online registration is required.

Family Movie: How to Train Your Dragon (2010)

Ever wonder what it takes to become a top-notch dragon trainer? Well, now’s your chance to learn. The library will be screening “How to Train Your Dragon” for all our aspiring dragon hunters!

Dungeons & Dragons for Beginners
Thursdays, August 6th & 20th from 2:00 – 3:00 PM; Legion Room  
Did you watch “Stranger Things” and think that Dungeons & Dragons looked really fun, but don’t know how to get started?  This program will teach you everything you need to know about the world’s most popular roleplaying game. Online registration is required.

Quiet on Set: A Silent Film Special Event!
Thursday, August 6th from 6:00 – 7:00 PM; Theatre 
Join us at the library for a rare opportunity to see witness an hour of the greatest comedic geniuses of the silent film era on the big screen! We’re featuring shorts from Buster Keaton, Laurel & Hardy, and Charlie Chaplin— packed with real stunts, slapstick stylings, and jokes that have kept audiences laughing for over a century.  Online registration is required.

Magician Christopher Cool
Wednesday, August 12th from 10:30 – 11:30 AM & 1:00 – 2:00 PM; Theatre  
Calgary-based magician Christopher Cool is back with a brand-new show that is guaranteed to be fun for the whole family. Last year’s shows were standing room only; we kindly request that families attend only one performance to allow everyone to take part in the magic of Christopher Cool this year.

Have you ever wondered what kind of birds live in Medicine Hat? If you come to the library to make your own bird feeder, you’ll be able to find out from the comfort of your own backyard! All supplies will be provided— no prior bird knowledge necessary! Online registration is required.

Deep Sea Scavenger Hunt
August 24th – 29th; Children’s Library 
End the summer with a search through the children’s library for 12 hidden sea characters. Find them all, then stop by the desk to claim a prize. 

Reading Quest Wrap Up Party
Saturday, August 29th from 2:00 – 3:00 PM; Honor Currie Room  
Celebrate the end of Summer Reading Quest, trade cards, and enjoy themed activities.

Drop-In Bracelet Making
Saturday, August 29th from 2:00 – 4:00 PM; Display Area near the Information Desk
Swing by the library to make a bracelet or two on a Saturday afternoon!

International Overdose Awareness Day Community Event
Friday, August 31st from 4:00 – 7:00 PM; Library Grounds
Join us for Medicine Hat’s 9th annual International Overdose Awareness Day community event, featuring a free BBQ at 5 pm, reflection stations, information and resource tables, indigenous drumming and dancing, Naloxone training, an open mic, and community art collaboration. All ages are welcome as we remember and honour those gone too soon.
