StoryWalk®
Saturday, August 22nd – Sunday, September 27th; Police Point Park & Children’s Desk
We’re partnering with the Medicine Hat Interpretive Program to launch a new StoryWalk(R) at Police Point Park on August 22.  This year’s featured book is, “Finding Wild,” written by Megan Wagner Lloyd and illustrated by Abigail Halpin. The tale reminds readers that nature is all around us — even in the city. Families have until Sept. 27 to enjoy the StoryWalk(R). Children who complete the walk can pick up a token at the Nature Centre (open Tuesday to Sunday, 9 AM – 5 PM) and redeem it for a prize at the library until Oct. 11.

Family Days
Sundays, September 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM 
Sunday afternoons are Family Day at MHPL. Check out our Co-op Community Developmental Play Space in the Kinsmen Children’s Library, Big Blue Blocks in the Honor Currie Room, LEGO in the Legion Room, enjoy a family-friendly film in the Theatre or build dinosaurs in the Story Castle. Please note that children must be accompanied by a parent or other adult caregiver at all times.

Paint a Bookend for the Library
Saturday, September 12th from 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM; Library Lawn 
Help us add more art to our stacks through this community art project! Paint a bookend inspired by the joy of reading (think your favourite stories or where reading transports you; let your imagination run free!). Bookends will be displayed throughout the library’s stacks. This program is in collaboration with the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre for Art in Motion.

Tween Night: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament
Thursday, September 17th from 6:00 PM– 7:00 PM; Honor Currie Room
Who is the champion of Smash? Let’s settle it once and for all. Compete against your friends (and your favourite video game characters) in this classic chaotic fighting game. Register here.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Event
Wednesday, September 30th from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM; Library Lawn 
Join us on the Library Lawn as we announce an exciting reconciliation project. Speakers such as Elder Charlie Fox of the Kainai Nation will be with us, and there will be teepees on the River Road lawn and activities for all ages.

Fall Reading Quest
October 1st – 31st; Children’s Desk 
Embark on a summer of reading with the Reading Quest! Set a daily reading goal, track your progress, and earn collectible trading cards as you go. For every three days you complete your goal, visit the library to collect a new card and enter a ballot for the grand prize each month. Starter kits can be picked up starting Saturday, September 26th until Saturday, October 10th.

Family Days
Sundays, October 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Tween Night: Mario Party
Thursday, October 15th from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM; Honor Currie Room
Scramble for stars in Super Mario Party and Mario Party Jamboree! Recruit allies, beat your friends in unpredictable minigames, and reveal your master strategy to snag the last star in the final turn of the game! Just avoid landing on the Bowser space. Register here.

Fall Reading Quest Wrap Up Party
Saturday, October 24th from 2:00 PM– 3:00 PM; Honor Currie Room
Trade cards and enjoy a themed-activity. Drop in.

Spooky Scary Scavenger Hunt
Saturday, October 24th – Sunday, November 1st; Children’s Library 
Oh no! Spooky, scary creatures have taken over the library. Help us find them all and solve the secret message to send them back home. If you can solve the puzzle you win a small prize!
